Cardiorespiratory
The cardiorespiratory service at The Veterinary Referral Centre is run by Dr Babis Koffas, European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology.
Available equipment and procedures offered:
- Echocardiography (2-D, M-mode, colour flow and spectral Doppler)
- Tissue Doppler imaging (pulsed-TDI)
- Thoracic radiography
- Multichannel ECG
- 24-hour ambulatory ECG Holter monitoring
- Indirect blood pressure monitoring
- Pericardiocentesis & thoracocentesis
- DC electrical cardioversion
- Non-invasive transthoracic temporary pacing
- Bronchoscopy
Indications for referral to the Cardiorespiratory service:
- Cough
- Heart murmur
- Gallop sound
- Arrhythmia
- Episodic weakness or collapse
- Exercise intolerance
- Dyspnoea or Breathlessness
- Pleural effusion
- Ascites
- Breed Club heart testing schemes
Interventional Cardiology
- Balloon Valvuloplasty (widening of the stenotic valve) for Pulmonic Stenosis (PS)
- Minimally invasive closure of Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
- Placement of Pacemakers
